T-Minus 24 hours for Gates of Antares

Dark Space Corp is a new company, founded by ex- Games Workshop stalwarts Rick Priestley and John Stallard, along with Rik Alexander.

The company was created to solely focus on building "Beyond the Gates of Antares".

And as they say its
"for you and with you, and our mission is to make it the best wargame universe that has ever existed. We have formed a partnership with Warlord Games who will help us produce and operate the game utilising their existing sales, warehousing and production infrastructure, so that we can focus on the game development, miniature design and community. Thanks to warlord we won’t have to worry too much about such things as production equipment, assembly lines and dispatch operations – we have all that covered already!"
The goal of Dark Space Corp is to bring the new Antarean universe to life by crowdsourcing the playtesting and rules creation alongside crowd funding through a Kickstarter campaign.

Others invovled include sculpters Kev White and Bob Naismith, designer Tim Prow (behind many of the top designs in the world of collectable miniatures and wargames as well as work for TV and films) Artists Opus Artz, Golum Painting Studios, Karol Rudyk – Slayer Sword winner, and Bruno Lavallée – Slayer Sword winner
"We’ve got the team, we’ve got the know-how, now all we need is YOU!"
They are launching the Kickstarter on 1 January 2013 and are interested in finding out if the backers are interested in helping define the game rules, artwork, miniature range, tactical abilities, scenery, vehicles and everything else.

What is very interesting is that it is envisioned to be more than just another tabletop game.  Dark Space Corp  describe it as real time dynamic gaming,
"The Antarean gaming universe is not just a setting for a game – we want our game to be the first tabletop wargame based upon a living, changing and constantly evolving universe. We call it our Real Time Dynamic Gaming Universe – which is a rather grandiose way of saying ours is a living universe and not a static, immutable game setting. To achieve that we are going to create on-line gaming episodes – battles for worlds or star-spanning campaigns – which all players can join by logging onto our Beyond the Gates of Antares site. All you have to do is contribute your gaming results to one or more of the disputed zones on the world, orbital ring, shell, asteroid belt, star system or wherever it is the episode is taking place. You can play for any of the six factions: Concord Combined Command, Isorian Shard Command, The Free World Determinate, Shard Freebooters, ExCon Freebooters, or Vorl Orde. When we introduce new factions we will incorporate those too."
This looks to be a very, very interesting project.  Will you get involved?

Wee Gamers Review ... Warlord Games Ruined Hamlet

The ruined hamlet is perhaps very subtlety one of the cleverest kits for terrain we have seen in a long time.

Terrain tends to be expensive.

So while players oft have the very last word on armies they make do with what's at hand for their actual games. Yet much as the base makes the model so terrain makes the game.

Gygax is back!

"At the end of 2012 TSR and Gygax shall rise again" is a prophecy more implausible than the Mayan 'end of the world' thing everyone keeps talking about.  But there you go, IT is happening.  Not the end of the world bit (otherwise this won't really matter), the TSR/Gygax thing.

Wee Gamers review ... Battleboards

"You get what you pay for".  Normally that's used to embarrass someone over their foolishness at spending money on something that fails to live up to expectations or basically breaks when you look at it. But in terms of Battleboards the term means quite the opposite.

Even in communication with Richard at Battleboards you know you're dealing with someone who really cares, not only about what they do and their reputation, but about you and your satisfaction.

Gaming at the Morrow Bunker (20,21,22,&23 December)

Wee Gamers Review ... 4Ground 28mm damaged buildings

The moment you hold a 4Ground building you know you have something special in your hands.

This is one of the pre-painted range and the damaged detached house compliments the other houses of the 4Ground 28mm range.

If you have the undamaged building and, as the need arises, you can easily replace it with the damaged version (if you have both kits obviously) or you mix a selection of damaged and undamaged buildings  to populate your townscape.

Santa comes early with Kings of War update from Mantic

Kings of War is a tabletop fantasy wargame written by Alessio Cavatore for Mantic Games, designed for big battles with big armies.  The game is quick, easy to learn, bloody and, most important of all, fun.

Whilst it had been published in 2010 in playtest format, republished for playtest in 2011, in 2012 Ronnie and the crew sent this little beauty to Kickstarter in order to produce a final book.

And, by gum, what a final book it was too.  Wee Ivor isn't the sharpest tool in the box but he fell in love with KoW for its simplicity to learn, options for play and focus on fun.

Army Builder gives Bolt Action Players covering fire

For a number of years now tabletop miniatures gamers have been using Army Builder brand roster construction tool as often as their rules, glue and paint. The core programme has been developed by Lone Wolf Development with the community putting together data files relating to their own favoured tabletop system, be it Warhammer, Warhammer 40K, Flames of War, Dystopian Wars or any number of systems.

The Morrow Project comes out of cryogenics

Kickstarter is being used more and more for not only starting up new games, but also bringing back older games that we have all loved

One such Kickstarter project is that of The Morrow Project, which we have been following with interest for some time on Facebook.

And finally that labour of love has produced The Morrow Project 4th Edition which is now on Kickstarter.  It has already been fully funded and is now on to the stretch goals.  The Morrow Project 4th. Edition kickstarter project will fund the development costs and printing costs for the first run of books.
